Ambassador M. Vakur Erkul was born in İstanbul in 1959. He graduated from Hannover University, Department of Economics in 1984.
Ambassador Erkul began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984, at the Deputy Directorate General for International Political Institutions and served at the Department for Policy Planning. Between 1987 and 2007 he served in the Consulate General in Frankfurt, the Permanent Mission of Turkey to the UNESCO well as in the Turkish Embassies in Tehran, Tashkent, Rome and Bonn. He also served in different departments in the Ministry, namely the NATO Department, the Department for Central Asia and Caucasus and the Department for America. He served at the Turkish Embassy in Berlin as Minister Counsellor between 2007 and 2010.
He was promoted to the rank of Ambassador in 2010 and served as the Ambassador of Turkey to the Republic of Bangladesh between 2010 and 2013.
In 2013 Ambassador Erkul served as Ambassador at Deputy Undersecretariat for Administrative and Financial Affairs. Between 2010 and 2013, Ambassador Erkul served as Director General for Strategy Development in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since August 2018, he serves as the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Republic of Finland.
Ambassador Erkul is married and has a son.
