Message Of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Issued On The Occasion Of The August 30 Victory Day
Following is the message President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued on the occasion of the August 30 Victory Day:
“Today, together with our nation, and our brothers in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, we are celebrating with pride and excitement the 94th anniversary of the Great Victory, which once more sealed Anatolia as our homeland.
I celebrate with heartfelt emotions the August 30 Victory Day of our millions of citizens living in Turkey and in various countries across the world.
The torch of independence that was lit up in 1919 under harsh conditions and in poverty, was crowned with victory in the August 30 Field Battle of Commander-in-Chief under the leadership of Veteran Mustafa Kemal and his brothers-in-arms.
The August 30 is the most evident manifestation of what achievements a nation can attain and what it can risk for its honor and independence should it be left face to face with a choice of ‘EITHER INDEPENDENCE OR DESTRUCTION.’
On August 30, 1922, Turkish nation declared to the whole world that by no means would it accept any yoke nor waive its independence.
We still preserve the same will that was sealed with the heroic struggle and sacred blood of our august martyrs 94 years ago from now in Dumlupınar.
We are working with all our strength in order to render our Republic everlasting and move our country even above the level of contemporary civilization economically, politically and socially.
Projects that are a source of pride for our country such as the Osman Gazi Bridge and the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, which we have put into service this year, are the most concrete manifestation of our resolve for struggle.
Our struggle will continue in unity, solidarity and fraternity by defeating the gangs of treason irrespective of traitorous attacks by separatist organizations that aim to stop our holy march.
The August 30 Victory should be a lesson especially for terrorist organizations and centers of evil that today target our country’s unity and peace and its presence on these lands.
The stance our nation displayed in the face of the July 15 bloody coup attempt shows still how alive the spirit of ‘Great Offensive’ is on these lands.
That night, the entire Turkey, together with Turks, Kurds, Lazes, Sunnites, Alawites and Cherkesses, banded together around shared values and defeated Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) members dressed in military uniform.
The spirit that made history on July 15 at streets and squares, reared up, so to speak, with the Yenikapı Rally which 5 million people attended on August 7, 2016.
In the same period, Turkey was subjected to attacks of Daesh and PKK besides FETO targeting civilians, our security forces, children and innocent people.
The only aim of these terrorist organizations, which are managed by the same center despite their different names, is to harm the ‘Spirit of New Great Offensive’ that came into existence on July 15 and August 7, and to bring this country to its knees.
Turkey, without discriminating among terrorist organizations, is determined to take necessary steps both at home and in neighbouring countries where terrorist organizations are nested in so as to ensure the security of its citizens.
The Jarablus operation, which was commenced on August 24 in cooperation with the International Coalition, is an indication of our will and determination in this direction.
Our operations will go on until terrorist organizations such as Daesh, PKK and its Syrian offshoot YPG are no longer a threat to our citizens.
Our biggest source of trust in this struggle is the solidarity our nation displayed on the night of July 15 and in its aftermath, along with the support of our friends.
On this occasion, I once again remember the founder of our Republic and the Commander-in-Chief of the Great Offensive, Veteran Mustafa Kemal, and his comrades with gratitude; and wish Allah’s mercy upon all our martyrs and veterans.
I celebrate our August 30 Victory Day.”
